My senior project was focused on a common childhood cancer known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I researched an informative side, learning specifically about the disease first, and later on digging deeper. I looked into political and religious debates that came up with different treatment options, different genetic flukes that have been discovered, and much more.
Throughout this project I have learned a lot. I've learned about what acute lymphoblastic leukemia is, what the children with this disease have to go through, as well as the parents, and what it actually takes for a child battling cancer. I've also confirmed that my love for children has grown from this, and that I potentially might like a career involved in pediatric medicine. I hope that through this website, my audience both inside and outside of BHS can learn more about this type of cancer. I hope they will be able to learn more about the controversy regarding the different treatments options, and that at the end of the day, disregarding you're political or religious beliefs, that it's about saving someone's life, saving a child's life, and how we together can accomplish that. I also hope that people become inspired to volunteer with children going through the fight with cancer, whether it be leukemia or another type of childhood cancer.
I've included many powerful photos, and videos that I hope will push people to want top help through donations, volunteer time, or simply sending a prayer or thought to these children. Because of this project I feel as though I have accomplished such a larger understanding and knowledge on acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I've learned about what these children need, and where the future of this cancer is going.
Also, as you look through this portfolio, please keep in mind that when reading the contrasting stem cells articles I tried to write these from each sides standpoint and mindset. Reading them to myself they seem a little harsh, and I don't have bias opinions towards one side of the other, but this was one of my harder points in this project trying to capture the essence of each side. You should also notice a color theme represented throughout the whole website. The color purple is the color of the leukemia cells, which prompted my use of theme colors. I also included many quotes throughout the website that are strong words of wisdom/messages that many cancer patients read often.
If this website, can teach even one person about acute lymphoblastic leukemia then all the work I have put into this, will truly have been worth it.
